Science and Technology

Status:Active, open to new members
Leader:

You don’t have to be a boffin to join our group. Most of us are enthusiastic amateurs who are just interested in both new and old technology and keeping up with scientific developments.

Being planned for this later this year: visits to Gloucester Cathedral (see Dates for your Diary below), Aeroponics LettUsgrow, UWE Robotics Centre.

Although the infinite monkeys amongst us might well be asking:

“Why are people prepared to believe in magic and pseudoscience rather than empirical evidence, and does it matter? Science often appears open-ended and evolving, a reason to mistrust it, especially when it can feel like we are bombarded with so much contradictory information. So is the scientific method the only way to truly test if something works, and why should we trust the scientists over alternative practitioners who many people would argue have helped them more than anything that comes out of a laboratory?”

Join us on our visits to places as diverse as water recycling plants, the Royal Mint and Electricity Museum, to answer these and other questions. We will try to offer visits on a bi-monthly basis, as well as informal presentations indoors during the winter months, but we want to be driven by what our members would like to investigate, so keep those ideas coming!
