Mahjong is a very popular Chinese board game played throughout the world. It is played to many different rules and there are often regional variations of the game.

Mahjong 1 meets weekly on a Thursday afternoon (1400-1600) in the Amigos Cocina Restaurant, in Chipping Sodbury, and consists of more experienced players. There is a small charge of £4 a head to cover the venue costs and refreshments.

We have a group of 21 players who started out as complete beginners and are now playing a varied set of Mahjong hands, learning new hands each month. We are a very friendly and social group who play for fun and the monthly 'top scorer' certificate. The group is currently full, but we have been able to bring up members from Mahjong 2 as they progress.

This afternoon group does not have a waiting list as it takes new members from the morning group.

The group use 'The Mahjong Companion' by Patricia A. Thompson & Betty Maloney as the playbook of mahjong Hands.
